The book series “fronteretro” was launched in 2015, as a result of the collaboration between the Ivo de Carneri Foundation and the publishing house La Vita Felice (Milano). The common thread between the books are the diseases that, throughout the centuries, have afflicted populations throughout the world, becoming the center of attention for doctors, biologists, politicians, historians, and journalists. Through direct testimony, these actors became interpreters of social unrest and would propose solutions so as to transform disease into a force for progress. “fronteretro” is only one of the elements of the broad outlook of the Foundation, which since 1994 has fought parasitological diseases in developing countries, and has concentrated its work on the island of Pemba in Tanzania.
